All image categories should be categorized under Category:Artwork by subject by default. As a rule of thumb, top-level image categories of a specific subject should contain all of their subcategories. For example, all items should be in Category:Images of items, including every item categorized in its subcategories, such as Category:Images of magic items, Category:Images of weapons and Category:Images of mundane items. While all weapons should be in Category:Images of weapons, including every weapon categorized in its subcategories, such as Category:Images of polearms, Category:Images of knives and Category:Images of firearms.
When in doubt about categorization, look for examples in similar categories, or assign the Category:Please check categories category.
Category:Images of [character name]
Image categories dedicated to a specific inhabitant should be categorized based on the inhabitant's ancestry, ethnicity, nations of residence, classes, organizations, and occupations.
All former examples of these parameters should be included as well, such as organizations the character is no longer part of, nations where the character used to live, occupations the character has retired from, or retroactively removed classes and ethnicities. This information can typically be found in the character's infobox, except for occupations, which should be listed in the categories and description of the of the character's article.
While all character image categories should aim to implement these six default categories if possible, some characters may have fewer categories if parameters are unspecified, or more categories if they're a part of other groups. For example, iconic characters should be categorized under Category:Images of iconics and particularly young characters belong in Category:Images of children.
Additionally, if the character resides on any plane other than the Material Plane, they should be in that plane's inhabitant image category on top of any nation categories. For example, Category:Images of Abdul-Qawi is both in Category:Images of Dominion of Flame inhabitants and Category:Images of Plane of Fire inhabitants.

All organization categories should be listed in the Category:Images of organizations category, even if they are in other organization subtypes like Category:Images of noble houses. If possible, organizations should also be categorized based on their most specific known location, like the city or nation where the organization operates. Their subtypes, such as Category:Images of academic institutions or Category:Images of adventuring groups. Their occupation if all members share the same occupation, like Category:Images of archers for Category:Images of Chernasardo Rangers. Ancestry-specific organizations like tribes should also be categorized based on their ancestry, such as Category:Images of orcs for Category:Images of Empty Hand tribe.

Category:Images of [deity name]
All deity categories should be listed in the Category:Images of deities category, even if they are in other deity subtypes, like Category:Images of Outer Gods or Category:Images of elemental lords. Such subtypes should still be applied where possible. If the deity is a member of any pantheons, they also belong in the image categories of such pantheons. Lastly, deities should be categorized based on the plane they inhabit unless it's the Material Plane. If they reside within a specific nation within that plane, they should also be categorized under the appropriate nation inhabitants category, like Kelizandri who resides in Kelizandrika of the Plane of Water.
Some deities, like hero-gods, also have a person infobox. These deities should have all the available categories any regular character would, in addition to their deity categories.

Category:Images of [weapon name]
All weapon categories should be listed in Category:Images of weapons and Category:Images of items category, even if they are in other weapon subtypes, like Category:Images of polearms or Category:Images of firearms. Such subtypes should still be applied where possible. All intelligent weapons belong in Category:Images of intelligent magic items, and all magic weapons should be categorized in Category:Images of magic items, even if they are intelligent. Some weapons may also be artifacts, belonging in Category:Images of artifacts or Category:Images of major artifacts, or belong to a specific weapon group like the Alara'quin.
Intelligent weapon articles may also contain a person infobox, in which case they should have all the available categories any regular character would, in addition to their weapon categories.
