Winter's Heart is an intelligent bastard sword carved from the heart of an ancient glacier and infused with a cold, unstoppable drive to unite northern Avistan under one empire. It is currently owned by the frost giant jarl Gnargorak, who has no such dedication; as a result, Winter's Heart has been denying its greater powers to Gnargorak except in dire need and seeks another owner, but Gnargorak never lets Winter's Heart leave his presence except when in his personal chambers.

However, one of his concubines has spoken to it, sympathises with its goal, and invites the best candidates to Bos-Phargrumm so she can judge them; no such candidate has yet been deemed suitable to wield the blade.
