Yashtoma

Yashtoma1 is a species of gourd long most popularly cultivated in the Sayashto township of Axis, which is named for the plant.2

In the Universe

Yashtoma is a foreign plant to Axis. The gourd originated in the Universe on the planet Shaltrua, which is home to several carnivorous varieties that closely resemble the domesticated variety.3

Sayashto also maintains trade relations with numerous other planets. These contracts include Castrovel, where lashuntas of Qabarat provides a growing market for yasht and manufactured goods imported from Halgrimard.4

In the Great Beyond

Yashtoma is cultivated on many planes, though yashtoma grown in Sayashto are widely regarded by connoisseurs as those with the richest flavor. Prominent tasting notes of Sayashto yashtoma include salt, beets, and aged wine.3

In Axis

Yashtoma are Sayashto's chief export, having been selectively cultivated in the township for millennia, and have many practical uses. Its dried husks can store water, its flesh can be added to enrich animal feed, and its dried and ground seeds can be brewed into a popular beverage known as yasht. Sayashto also trades with its neighboring districts in Axis.4

Sayashto's history with the gourd is documented at the Striped Palace, a museum dedicated to the plant.3

In trade

A pound of ground yashtoma seeds can brew 50 cups of yasht, and different grades and varieties can cost between 5 and 50 silver pieces per pound. A brewed cup of yasht can cost as little as two copper pieces.3
