Asanbosams are a species of tree-dwelling, blood-drinking humanoids with cold iron fangs.1

Appearance

Asanbosams are monstrous, hairy, muscular humanoids with powerful hooked claws. Their fangs are oversized and made of cold iron surrounded by bone.1

Ecology

Asanbosams hide in the canopy and descend upon the necks of their victims to drink their blood. In order to maintain their teeth, asanbosams need to consume large quantities of iron (usually by drinking blood), and sharpen their teeth upon certain kinds of rocks when not hunting or mating.1

Society

In asanbosam territory, communities tell horror stories of 'bloodsucking tree-folk', and experienced explorers closely watch over the treetops. According to some folk tales, they are the original source of cold iron, and cold iron mines originated as primordial asanbosam graveyards. Brave or foolhardy poachers hunt asanbosams in their territory for their teeth; although extracting the cold iron from an asanbosam's fangs is difficult without specialised tools or chemicals to melt the surrounding bone, the payoff can be substantial.1
