Blackwood trees produce a light and tough wood also known as blackwood. Because of this strength and the fact that it is naturally resistant to water, blackwood has become a valuable building material for many trades,1 including shipbuilding.2 The last domain of blackwood trees is the Verduran Forest, which is protected by the druids of Wildwood Lodge34 who limit the logging of the trees based on the Treaty of the Wildwood signed hundreds of years ago.1

Blackwood is ideal for shipbuilding but is also derived for tar. Taldor is renowned for its blackwood-derived tar, a substance typically used to waterproof ships and wood roofs. Blackwood tar has a pleasant, sweet odor, and the tar factories of the Imperial Shipyards in Cassomir often smell uncannily like candy.45
