Cryptid creatures resemble the common creatures on which they are based though there is always something obviously strange and different about them.[1]

There are currently four type of cryptids.[2]

Experimental cryptids

Cryptids might be manufactured and these are called experimental cryptids. The process of manufacture could be alchemical, engineered, magical, or through a ritual, though these methods are often flawed or corrupted if a creature escapes in the middle of an experiement. [1]

Mutant cryptids

Some mutation in a creature can create a mutant cryptid that looks and acts differently from a standard version. Such mutations are variously caused, such as, an oddity in their ancestry emerging; some environmentally caused change; radiation exposure; or the effects of wild magic.[3]

Primeval cryptids

Scholars who delve into forgotten history may find primeval cryptids still alive: living relics from bygone ages that have survived through robustness or vast intellect.[4]

Rumored cryptids

Voicing rumors about creature might create a rumored cryptid rather than just a good story. As the belief in the tale grows and spreads wider, somehow, this can have a power to transform the creature accordingly.[5]
