An embolotherium1 is a plains-dwelling grazer resembling a rhinoceros bearing a blunt, bony protrusion instead of a horn. This protrusion is hollow and used by the animal as a resonating chamber, producing loud calls used to communicate with conspecifics. Embolotherium are social animals and usually live in large herds.2
