Commander Gruenak Helmrunner was a dwarven hero who served under General (and later King) Taargick during the Quest for Sky. Among Gruenak's descendants is General Charak Helmrunner, founder and leader of the modern Ninth Battalion. He is said to have been among the commanders who led the Ever-Advancing Legion.

Possessions

Gruenak wore a magical red and gold breastplate known as Dawnhunter, which was decorated to appear as if it were made of stone. It had most recently been displayed in the Hall of Armor at Delvehaven, a Pathfinder lodge in the Chelaxian city of Westcrown, but was thought to have been lost or looted when Pathfinders loyal to House Thrune raided the abandonded lodge in 4674 AR.
