Help talk:Writing an article about a place
Categorization Question
As the wiki grows, there is a question over how to categorize people and places - please see the 'debate' here: Forum:Categories about people inconsistency. Currently the help pages are inconsistent re which fashion to adopt.--Fleanetha 22:14, 31 January 2011 (UTC)
Categorizing places by nation
This article suggests that places go into the nation's appropriate subcategory. For instance, Dustpawn would be categorized into Category:Isger/Settlements. However, some settlements are also categorized into the parent nation's category; Elidir and Gillamoor, for instance, are categorized in both Category:Isger and Category:Isger/Settlements.
Given N = Nation, is it necessary to categorize places into both the Category:N/Settlements (or N/Geography or N/Locations) subcategory as well as the Category:N category?
If so, should this be done universally? In other words, should the Category:Isger page list every geographical feature, history article, inhabitant, location, organization, and settlement in Isger?
If not, should all articles that fit into any of N's subcategories be removed from Category:N? And if so, what articles are appropriate for Category:N? For instance, I don't know if Andoren foreign relations or Hamatulatsu are appropriate for any of the national subcategories. Should they remain in Category:Isger?
Forum:Categories about people inconsistency discusses categorizing locations into appropriate national and regional subcategories (Category:N/Locations and Category:R/Locations) but doesn't mention categories like Category:N. --Oznogon (talk) 20:28, 9 September 2014 (UTC)
