Help talk:Writing an article about a year
Change in subject hierarchy
I'd like to propose what I believe to be a more straightforward and user-friendly subject hierarchy (i.e. the order in which the subjects are listed) for these year articles. I am propsing this change so that our year articles all have a nice, uniform look. My suggestion is as follows:
- {{Yearbox/in-conflicts}}
- {{Yearbox/in-deities}}
- {{Yearbox/in-environment}}
- {{Yearbox/in-fiction}}
- {{Yearbox/migrations}}
- {{Yearbox/in-people}}
- {{Yearbox/in-politics}}
- {{Yearbox/in-wildlife}}
- {{Yearbox/births}}
- {{Yearbox/deaths}}
- {{Yearbox/in-misc}}
My reasoning is as follows (the horizontal lines are just used as illustration):
The subjects in the first section are simply in alphabetical order; seems pretty straightforward. Births and deaths are listed second, as they generally contain less context and general historical information and are simply listed in articles as "Births in Year" and "Deaths in Year", rather than the "Year in subject" way in which the subjects in the first group are organized. Finally, miscellaneous is last because it is, well, miscellaneous: a catch-all category. For an example of what a year article with lots of different subjects currently looks like, you can check out 4606 AR.

- I think that's a great idea. I'm all for standardization when it comes to similar articles like years. Also on my todo list is to do something to reference the Imperial Calendar in the main {{yearbox}} and a reevaluation of the colors on those bars to bring them more in line with the colors used in PathfinderWiki:Template colors (some of them are heinous).—Yoda8myhead 20:31, 14 July 2012 (UTC)
- Cool, I can start working on those soon, although it would be great to get some more input. I agree with the need for a change of color palate. I mean, chartreuse for migrations? What about migrations says chartreuse to anyone? ;) The only association I have with chartreuse is emergency vehicles. --Brandingopportunity 02:40, 15 July 2012 (UTC)
