Horlas are hope-eating aberrations from the Ethereal Plane.1

Appearance

A horla is an invisible, spherical, tentacled creature that weighs 40 pounds.1

Ecology

Horlas feed on the hopes and dreams of humanoids. In order to do this, they have to search for cracks between the Material and Ethereal planes, as they cannot move between planes by themselves. They choose a host on the Material Plane from whom they feed, consuming their hopes while plaguing them with anguish and driving them insane. Horlas can take control of unwitting sleeping creatures and drive them to destructive acts while ensuring that the repercussions, rather than the acts themselves, cause the victim lasting harm.1
