Huzuri

Huzuris are magical animal skulls that hold the collective memories of the chiefs and witch-wardens of the tribes of Old Sarkoris and are therefore items of tremendous cultural significance.

Creation

Each huzuri idol was created long ago from the bleached skull of an animal that had a strong connection to one of the tribes of Old Sarkoris, the region today known as the Sarkoris Scar. The animal gained this significance either because it was the tribe's spirit totem or because it was an important part of the tribe's history in some other way. Examples of the latter would be a fattened bear who appeared before starving hunters, or a war dog who served the tribe in battle. After the animal's death, the skull would be preserved and consecrated by the tribe's oldest witch, transforming it into a repository of her and/or the tribal chief's memories. Each successive witch or chief, after attainting the title, would place a bloody fingerprint upon the huzuri and transfer their own memories into the skull. If the skull ever were lost or destroyed, the ancient Sarkorians believed that the tribe's soul was destroyed as well.
