Dawnsilver

From PathfinderWiki

Dawnsilver, sometimes called mithral,12 is a beautiful but uncommon silvery metal that has the strength and hardness of steel but is much lighter.345 Dawnsilver is magnetic,6[citation needed] and has the same anathematic capability as alchemical silver against creatures weak to it, such as devils and werecreatures.75

Armor is the most common use of the metal. Dawnsilver armor3 and shields7 are very light and restrict movement far less than even masterwork steel armor. Elves make chain shirts from rings of dawnsilver that are known for making very little sound.3 Hunter's anthem longbows have a dawnsilver bowstring that generates harmonic chords when fired rapidly.8

Off the battlefield, dawnsilver is sometimes used in cookware such as waffle irons9 and frying pans10 since food rarely sticks to it. Such items are very rare due to the prohibitive cost of using dawnsilver for such mundane purposes.9 It is also used to craft thin, lightweight, but sturdy horseshoes.11

Etymology

Dawnsilver was a regional name for mithral in the elven nation of Kyonin.2
