Retroactive changes

Per James Jacobs, descriptions and lore about barghests from Pathfinder First Edition are closely connected to their depictions in other games that were used in the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game through the Open Game License. Because the Pathfinder Second Edition Remaster Project changed Pathfinder's license to the ORC License, these shared details could no longer be applied to barghests in the Pathfinder campaign setting.

In Monster Core, many prior details of barghest associations with Lamashtu and the Outer Rifts are now described as apocryphal, and prior details or implications of them being at least partially goblinoid were tacitly removed.1

Divine Mysteries intentionally retained barghests' association with goblins as the goblin hero-gods, however, per Luis Loza on the PaizoCon Discord server.2

“For something involving the groupings of gods, I was curious about what was happening with the Barghest Gods? Seeing as the new Barghest lore seems to divorce them from Goblins largely. Is there any lore that details that change?”

"Barghest gods are still around, plus additional goblin gods 🙂"
