Soul eaters are outsiders native to the swamps of Abaddon capable of eating a victim's soul.

Appearance

A soul eater is a cloud of inky smoke with spindly arms that end in taloned fingers. They silently slither through the air like a serpent.

Abilities

A soul eater's touch can impair its victim's consciousness. When summoned to the Universe by a conjurer, it can find any target its summoner has seen and can name aloud regardless of its location or distance. However, it cannot cross running water or penetrate lead.

However, if the soul eater's target dies before it can consume their soul, or the target defeats the soul eater without killing it, the soul eater always knowns the location of its summoner and attempts to consume them instead.

If a soul eater destroys a victim's consciousness with its claws, it can consume the victim's soul. This kills the victim, prohibits reincarnation, and complicates most simple forms of resurrection.

Ecology

While native to the daemonic plane of Abaddon, soul eaters are popular creatures to conjure among evil spellcasters.

Variants

Larger, deadlier variants called soul gluttons roam Abaddon as roiling black clouds with six arms. While they can also be summoned, they are much more difficult to control.
