Soul slimes are protoplasmic oozes that consume the quintessence of souls, often by directly consuming living and undead creatures or other containers that hold souls.1

Appearance

Soul slimes are typically formless blue-gray oozes, though they can take on the vague form and voice of a soul contained within it that has not yet been digested, a process that can take decades. The trapped soul has no control over the form and the ooze lacks the intelligence to convincingly resemble the being, instead mimicking its sounds and mannerisms.1

Ecology

Soul slimes are most common in areas of the Universe populated by living or undead creatures. Some also exist along the River of Souls and in the quintessence-rich Outer Planes.1
