Sumbreivas are sporting hunters whose trophies are souls. They are native to the Void, and the most powerful sumbreivas travel the planes to hunt some of reality's most powerful beings.1

Appearance

A sumbreiva resembles a lion-faced humanoid who trails tendrils of darkness.1

Abilities

Sumbreivas can exude a whip made of shadow that drains a creature grabbed by it. Each wields a huntblade that they are equally adept at using as a sword and throwing.1

Upon or soon after killing a creature, a sumbreiva can claim its soul into a soul trophy composed of wispy blue light of an intensity relative to the soul's power. The soul within can be freed only by touching the trophy and speaking the word "freedom" in any language. Each captured soul increases a sumbreiva's power, which manifests as physical changes such as growing in height or gaining new limbs, wings, or weapons.1

Society

Sumbreivas gather in hunting lodges known as Night Lodges to train and show off their soul trophies. While their hunts typically take place within the Void, they sometimes engage in Night Hunts in the Universe, in which a Night Lodge's sumbreivas disperse and compete to gather the most powerful souls within a single night. A Night Hunt's victor becomes the lodge's leader until the next hunt.1

Each lodge is ranked by its collective success, with only the most powerful hunters promoted to the apex Twilight Lodge, which also houses the most elite captured souls. The most powerful sumbreivas are giants who hunt only the most powerful creatures, such as demigods, kaiju, and the Spawn of Rovagug.1
