Spawn of Rovagug
The terrible monsters known as the Spawn of Rovagug are the most feared children of Rovagug, god of destruction. These nigh-invincible creatures wreak destruction across Golarion, and only some of the world's most legendary heroes—including the god Aroden, first Maharajah of Vudra Khiben-Sald, and the Legion of Wands—have been able to slow or halt their rampages.12
Most rise from the Pit of Gormuz in Casmaron, where Rovagug was initially captured.3 The first known emergence of a Spawn from the pit was in -3923 AR.42
On the day of Burning Blades across lands that worship Sarenrae, temples ring seven bells to commemorate their deity's defeat of Rovagug and its spawn.5
Great Spawn
Six of the recorded Spawn of Rovagug are collectively known as the Great Spawn. These infamous creatures have laid waste to entire nations and cut festering swaths of destruction across continents, the wounds of which remain visible thousands of years later.2 They are immortal, impossible to permanently kill and capable of regenerating even from disintegration, though several have been bound after their deaths through banishment or by damaging or separating their remains.6
Name | Alias | First sighting | Description |

Kothogaz | Unyielding Kothogaz, The Dance of Disharmony | (Year unknown) | A Spawn in Casmaron that reportedly slew a million Vudrani before being defeated by Vanitapati.691011 Its heart was split into 101 pieces and spread across Vudra and Jalmeray to prevent its revival.9 |
Ulunat | Festering Ulunat, the Unholy First | -3470 AR; possibly -3923 AR | ca.A colossal beetle, around whose shed carapace the Osirian capital of Sothis has grown.1213 |

Xotani | Wrath-Blazing Xotani, the Firebleeder | (Year unknown) | Slain by the Legion of Wands. Its grave lies in Katapesh.1617 Legend suggests 1,000 wishes—one for each of its wounds—could revive it.13 |
Lesser Spawn and unknown entities
An unnamed creature terrorized the Vudran realm of Ninshabur in -3923 AR. Some believe this was Ulunat, though this has not been confirmed.13
Some massive, rampaging creatures known as Lesser Spawn also appear in Golarion's history. While they are not conclusively spawn of Rovagug, their similarities in size and destructive nature lend themselves an association with the six greater spawn.5
These include:
- Agohbindi, the Splintering Child, who once attacked the city of Nantambu from beneath the Vanji River,18 and which legends say was defeated by Old-Mage Jatembe, buried, and bound to a forest near the river.19
- Crawling Hunger, a many-legged purple worm with an endless appetite.20
- Djakobu, a destructive beast controlled by cultists of Rovagug at war with the early Shory peoples.21
- Gray-Stag-Devourer of the Crown of the World and Irrisen.5
- Urtleytlar, the Tempest Queen, a scylla cleric of Rovagug.22
