Talk:Alkenstar City/Conflicts
Edition conflicts
Moved this inline ref here:
“Between the publication of the main 1e source and 2e, some changes to the city are evident. Some may be explainable such as the change of government type from 'Council' to 'Constitutional Monarchy' as both are, in effect, correct. The alignment change may be a reflection of change over time. However, note that the demographics have completely changed despite a consistent total population and this is likely a conflict but, for now, both are shown in the infobox until Paizo can comment.
”
The specific conflicts are:
- Demographics
- Wardens of the Reborn Forge (1E) pg. 56: 85% humans, 7% dwarves, 3% halflings, 5% other
- Impossible Lands (2E/Lost Omens) pg. 72: 93% dwarves, 4% humans, 3% other
- Government
- 1E: Council
- 2E: Constitutional monarchy
- Alignment
- 1E: Neutral
- 2E: Lawful neutral
I've edited the article to use the 2E government and alignment, but the 1E demographics, since there are indications in the text of both Impossible Lands and Guns & Gears that those demographics are in error. Specifically, Impossible Lands lists several named notable inhabitants of the city in its article, but none of them are dwarves. It notes that the city's culture is primarily influenced by human ethnicities. All of its leaders and named law enforcers in Impossible Lands are human or half-human. Guns & Gears mentions only three dwarves, two of which are from Dongun Hold and a third who lives and works outside of the city walls.
If the Impossible Lands population and its proportional demographics are both correct, Alkenstar would be the largest known dwarven settlement on Golarion's surface by population, with at least 8,000 more dwarves than Highhelm.
That conflict is unresolved pending clarification from an official source per the canon policy. -Oznogon (talk) 23:36, 1 December 2023 (UTC)
