Talk:Book of Serpents, Ash, and Acorns

From PathfinderWiki

Punctuation

In Planar Adventures and Temple of the Peacock Spirit, this book's proper name Book of Serpents, Ash, and Acorns and subtitle Shadows of What Was and Will Be are now separated by a colon, not by a dash like in older materials. I'll let other people decided if the article should be renamed or not, or whether the article name should include both the proper name and the subtitle or just the proper name alone. - HTD (talk) 07:03, 19 November 2018 (UTC)

So does anyone have any idea about which article name (with or without subtitle) is preferred? - HTD (talk) 15:59, 27 November 2018 (UTC)
Colons are meaningful in MediaWiki page titles as a namespace separator and should be avoided if possible. Most other works with colons in the title use commas instead of colons. Because the dash has canon precedent, it is also fine. The distinction is otherwise insignificant. -Oznogon (talk) 18:34, 27 November 2018 (UTC)
Isn't a colon a namespace separator when (and only when) there's no space before and after it though? In this case, there is one. - HTD (talk) 23:12, 27 November 2018 (UTC)
Technically, it's only a namespace separator when what precedes it is the name of a namespace. But even if they aren't always functional in that context, they are still meaningful and worth avoiding if possible. In this case, it's possible to avoid them.
I'm actually going to cleave the proverbial baby on this one and remove the subtitle from the title. This is way too long for an article title. -Oznogon (talk) 00:39, 28 November 2018 (UTC)
