Talk:Juju

This is a tricky one - I don't think Category:Religion is right as we don't use that for any gods and would be the only type of religion there. Category:Philosophies has to stay while it is appended to Shamanism as they are related, but it is also clearly reminiscent of a religion being a pantheon. I will try to set up the page so it looks like a pantheon for now, but retain a philosophy cat. Shamanism is more like Spirit worship though, as is juju, and that is how it is categorized at Portal:Religion. That is a whole area a bit vague so far on the wiki. --Fleanetha (talk) 15:27, 3 October 2015 (UTC)

We describe shamanism as a belief in spirits. That's no different in scope or structure than how we describe atheism, pantheism, or sangpotshi, or how we'd describe theism if we had an article on it. Per our own description of juju, it is one type of shamanism, it has a pantheon of named entities its followers worship, and its followers form a stratified, hierarchical organization. In that sense, how is our description of juju any different than our description of religious followers of a core deity? If anything, this makes me think the Green Faith should be classified as both a philosophy and a religion, as that article actually does describe it as both a religion (an organized collection of beliefs, cultural systems, and world views) and a philosophy (the study of the general and fundamental nature of reality). Juju only describes a pantheon and how its followers organize themselves, and offloads the philosophical elements to the article on the philosophy of shamanism. That's clearly a religion.

Category:Deities, Category:Pantheons, and Category:Inhabitants by religion are all subcategories of Category:Religion (and for that matter, each subcat of Category:Inhabitants by religion is also a subcat of a deity). Each deity is in that category, just not each deity's article, though maybe we should since we describe a deity's organized religion on the same article as the deity itself instead of giving the religion and its practices its own article.

If juju has to be categorized under the umbrella of the philosophy of which it's an example, then every deity page should be classified under Category:Theism. Should we do that too?
