Stavian I

Council of Thieves Player's Guide 12 states that the Taldan emperor during the initial construction of the Stavian Arches in 3850 AR was Stavian I. Cheliax, The Infernal Empire 40 also asserts that the Arches were built during the reign of a Taldan emperor named Stavian I, but does not provide years for their construction.

However, later sources date Stavian I's reign to the 46th century AR, long after the area around the Stavian Arches were ceded to Cheliax. These include Crownfall inside rear cover, dating Stavian I's birth to 4497 AR and reign from 4526 AR to 4588 AR. City in the Lion's Eye 51, which reveals Stavian I's true lineage, also dates his birth to 4497 AR, and City in the Lion's Eye 27 dates Stavian I's purge of Sarenites from Taldor to "200 years ago", or the 46th century AR.

Assuming no conflicts, one resolution to this might be that Taldor had two emperors named Stavian I, the first of which ruled during the late 39th century AR. However, Crownfall also describes Stavian I as "First of His Name", and Taldor, the First Empire names two emperors near that time period not named Stavian I: Adavarine II ca. 3841 AR, and Cydonus III from 4077 AR to 4082 AR.

Additionally, neither Crownfall, City in the Lion's Eye, nor The Six-Legend Soul credit Stavian I with any role in the construction of the Stavian Arches, nor do they mention the Arches in any of their issues, despite all of them featuring Stavian I and describing his best-known historical acts.

This canon conflict is unresolvable barring an official clarification or subsequent canon work. -Oznogon (talk) 17:19, 8 September 2024 (UTC)
