Yaoguai as described will likely conflict with or need disambiguation from yaoguai from Tian Xia Character Guide, per a recent livestream. -Oznogon (talk) 07:56, 11 February 2024 (UTC)

Removed this statement citing a non-canon source for conflicting with the depiction of Bao Ting and description of yaoguai in the glossary of Tian Xia World Guide:
Due to the pain of their creation and existence, some yaoguai seek to kill and escape their creator as soon as possible, and are violently unstable, attacking at the first provocation.1

I think disambiguation is warranted, from my understanding the 1e creature and the TXCG ancestry are plainly different concepts that just happen to have been given the same name.
Incidentally, 1e-style yaoguai appear in at least The Choking Tower, Shadow of the Storm Tyrant, The Solstice Scar, and Eulogy for Roslar's Coffer. Balalyka (talk) 17:13, 7 September 2024 (UTC)
Split the 1E creature into Yaoguai (legacy creature). 1E-specific details from other sources can go there. -Oznogon (talk) 16:27, 9 September 2024 (UTC)

Treat Heritage flavor text on origins rigidly?

Would like to confirm with other editors of the Heritage flavor text for how the PC became a Yoaguai (in Tian Xia Character Guide p84-85) as general examples on how any thing could become a Yoaguai or should be treated exclusive to each Heritage. For example would all Born of Animal be all Enlightened by the sun or Born of Item only all require the moon? With the exception of Born of Celestial, the rest of the section only says Yoaguai are born from just needing to absorb energy under the right conditions. Page 15 in a chicken or egg situation, it suggested a tree Yoaguai could be created from belief, and earlier a haunted battlefield could turn villagers into Yoaguai. I am questioning this now so we are on the same page, The Heritages text is structured like definitive statement instead of a possibility statement. --Stejo (talk) 18:38, 12 September 2024 (UTC)
