Trilobites are ancient arthropods adapted to scavenging the ocean floor. They have both resilient exteriors and keen senses adapted to the lightless depths, and are known for curling into balls to protect themselves. Unlike most vermin, trilobites can be made into familiars, which gives them animal intelligence.
