Uomotos are a Mwangi people who live in the Mwangi Expanse near the ruins of Kho.12

Proximity to Kho

The ruins of Kho sustain the Uomoto people in several ways. Their water comes from the Uomoto River, which is sourced from open portals to the Plane of Water in the Upper City of Kho's ruins. Even beyond the range of its most significant effects, the still-active Well of Axuma that once powered Kho's flight makes the region hospitable to people and fertile for agriculture.3

Several Uomoto villages, such as Jianguji, Tsutai, Tafiq, and Abjit,4 are located near the ruins, and their inhabitants nearly indistinguishable from the other lowland Mwangi tribes. The unusually high percentage of adepts and sorcerers claim their powers come from the ruined city.51 Highly skilled Uomoto scavengers, who typically work only in pairs, carefully pluck items of interest from Kho but are reluctant to lead strangers there for fear of causing harm or dangerous disruption to the site.6

Culture

Uomotos live in multi-generational homes decorated with glass baubles that melodically ring when winds of the Kho-Rarne Pass blow through. Aspects of Kho are also echoed in Uomoto settlements, whose buildings often feature colorful glass ornaments and integrate Shory artifacts from Kho. They are hospitable to the rare visitors they receive and lavish upon them food and drink.7

Fashion

The Well of Axuma maintains a temperate climate and fertile lands despite the mountainous landscape and high elevation, and also produces persistently regenerative and enhanced magics.37 Uomoto fashion is likewise adaptable to cool and warm temperatures but does not feature the heavy coats of other mountain-dwelling folk.8

Relationships with eagles

They build sustainable relationships with wild eagles, who they nurture in exchange for good fortune, assistance scouting the Barrier Wall mountains, and the eagles' occasional gifts of crystals and artifacts. While most such relationships are temporary, some that start by children raising eaglets become lifelong bonds. Protective arm coverings for eagles to perch pon are common fashion among Uomotos.9
