The Ashen Worm is an infamous sea serpent believed to lurk beneath the waves of the Fever Sea off the coast of Vidrian. Almost a creature of myth to those who sail the seas west of Garund, the Ashen Worm is said to have scales the colour of a festering corpse that has never once seen the light of the sun. The Ashen Worm hunts only at night and is thought to be responsible for countless destroyed ships and drowned crews.

As of 4712 AR, the Serpentine Lodge of Anthusis, then known as Eleder, had sworn to hunt down and destroy the Ashen Worm in part for the sheer glory of it, but also as retribution for the horrible injuries it inflicted on Captain Ahrana Mullorn, then-leader of the Serpentine Lodge.
