Chouchin-obake
Chouchin-obake
(Creature)
Chouchin-obake1 are tsukumogami who resemble paper lanterns.2
Appearance
Unlike other tsukumogami, who awaken after a long period, a chouchin-obake is a fire kami who inhabits a relatively ephemeral paper lantern as a ghostly blue flame. The lantern then grows a horizontal slit near its bottom that forms a mouth beneath two eyes. A chouchin-obake's particularly long tongue protrudes from its mouth.2
Abilities
A chouchin-obake's light leeches the life from nearby creatures, and it can immobilize a creature within its light by pinning its shadow. Chouchin-obake can also emit gouts of flame and grab foes with its powerful tongue, both of which are imbued with fire and negative energy. They move by flying.2
