Crowned Regents
Crowned Regents is the name applied by others to the otherwise unnamed, reclusive group of arcane inventors credited with crafting the first star guns in Arcadia thousands of years ago, before Earthfall.1
History
The Crowned Regents were an isolated folk known for living lives of silence in mountainous monasteries of what is now known as the Crownpeaks of the Mildanesi Mountains, and for their imposing, gaunt appearance. Each Crowned Regent bore a stone crown atop their long head.2
They had few interactions with outsiders, trading only with those they trusted. According to folk tales like Banjara's Climb and Janshar's Bold Request, people seeking star guns would search for the Crowned Regents' monasteries atop mountain peaks.3
Legacy
The known monasteries of the Crowned Regents are all abandoned or in ruin, and the Regents themselves lost to history;3 the last recorded contact with a Crowned Regent was in -5111 AR.4 The city of High Klesh was constructed around the lowest of the known monasteries and grew wealthy from trading the relics found within, with each member of its Spire Council armed with their own star gun.3
The deity Kaldemash, Keeper of the Code, was a Crowned Regent as a mortal and the developer of the Star Code,5 an ancient set of cultural mores that govern the behavior of those who wield star guns which persists in modern laws across Arcadia.63 Legends suggest Kaldemash developed the Code after accidentally killing his best friend with his star gun, an unnamed weapon since referred to in legends as Kaldemash's Lament.7
The gunslingers known as spellshots combine the use of firearms and magic in imitation of the Crowned Regents' creations, and base their practices on the Star Code even though they do not wield star guns.6
Works
While best known for the powerful magical firearms known as star guns, the Crowned Regents crafted many powerful and intricate items.8
