The interactive Golarion Map is a project by members of this wiki community to create a world map of Golarion derived from canon sources that is also compatible with the lore of the Pathfinder campaign setting. The interactive map's source code is on GitHub, as is the data used to generate it.
The map
You can view and interact with the map at https://map.pathfinderwiki.com or below. You can click cities and points of interest to view links to and text from PathfinderWiki content, and right-click on the map to copy coordinates or measure distances between selected points.
Wiki usage and contributing
To embed a map into a wiki article, please see this guide. For details on how to contribute to the mapping project, please see PathfinderWiki:Mapping project contribution.
Special use cases
Measuring distances
To measure the distance between two points, right-click or tap-and-hold the map on the first point you want to measure from and select "Measure Distance".
Move the cursor, tap, or click on another point to see the distance in both miles and kilometers. Each subsequent click on another point on the map will display a line with the distance between the previous point and the new point.
To clear the points, press the escape (esc) key.
Making a fly animation
You can create a link that shows a flying animation by adding the flyTo
parameter with the end position to the URL.
For example, https://map.pathfinderwiki.com/#location=1/0/0&flyTo=11/30.9/-0.2 opens the world map centered on coordinates 0,0 at zoom 1, then animates a zoom to Absalom centered on coordinates 30.0,-0.2 with zoom 11.
Embedding the map
To embed the map in a local app that supports it, such as Obsidian, you can use an iframe:
<iframe src="https://map.pathfinderwiki.com/#location=12/30.889/-0.23409&embedded=true" height=250px width=250px></iframe>
The embedded=true
URL parameter is optional and applies interface changes designed for embedding, such as adding a button to open the embedded map in a new browser tab.
Note that using an iframe consumes the wiki's server resources, abuse of which might result in restrictions of embedding maps. Some websites or apps also do not support embedding content via iframes.

Frequently asked questions
Is PathfinderWiki's map canon?
The mapping project strives to be as compatible as possible with canon sources.
However, maps in Pathfinder products are primarily gaming and narrative aids and do not represent precise data. The wiki's map must reconcile differences in aesthetics across different cartographers, map styles created for specific gameplay and narrative purposes rather than as geographic references, and inconsistencies, abstractions, and imprecise depictions of locations.
For example, some Paizo maps are published multiple times with the same geometry but conflicting scales, or with conflicting borders and regions. Others place a settlement in significantly different locations, or depict it in a manner that is irreconcilable with more detailed maps.
In such cases, the wiki's map cannot be perfectly aligned with all canon sources, resulting in judgment calls and compromises informed by the wiki's canon policy, official clarifications, and attempts to find a consistent depiction across sources. Such concerns also cannot be handled in isolation, because many locations are primarily defined by their relative position to other locations, and changing one location can create conflicts for others.
Articles where editors have identified conflicts between the wiki map's location and printed sources should note and link to the article's conflicts page, which should describe the conflict in detail.
Is there a PDF or image version of the map?
Not right now. The map is rendered in a similar manner as Google Maps, by projecting the geographic data to Web Mercator and rendering them as sets of vector tiles with varying levels of detail at different zoom levels, and the map frontend lacks the ability to export parts of this map as static images.
You can generate multiple formats of static images from the source data repositories by using GIS-editing tools like QGIS, which allow you to customize the projection, colors, labels, and visibility of features. Project volunteers might be able to assist in such efforts if they have the time and resources to do so. For details on using QGIS with this project, see PathfinderWiki:Mapping project contribution and the mapping project repository on GitHub.
Can I use this map in my own Pathfinder projects?
The map and its underlying data are provided as a community resource in compliance with the Community Use Policy (CUP). Personal projects not for distribution, and works for distribution that fully comply with the CUP, should be able to use content based on this map.
Commercial projects (including Pathfinder Infinite works) and other projects for distribution that do not comply with the CUP might not have permission from Paizo to use such depictions of Golarion. In such situations, you should consult the current policies of distribution on Infinite if relevant, seek explicit permission from Paizo, and consult an attorney before attempting to do so.
