The PathfinderWiki Mapping project provides an interactive map of Golarion that can be easily embedded in wiki articles. Maps can make it easier for readers to locate places referenced in articles and can provide useful context for events, people, and geography.

Adding maps to articles

PathfinderWiki uses specialized templates to include maps in articles.

DisplayMap template

{{DisplayMap |by name=Isle of Kortos |align=right}}

To add a standalone map to an article, see the {{DisplayMap}} template, which provides guidance on using its parameters.

When using maps in articles, use {{DisplayMap|align=right}} to position the map as a sidebar. To add context as a caption beneath the map, also include the caption parameter.

For areas labeled on the map, such as borders or geographical features with a shape like forests or mountain ranges, use the {{DisplayMap|by name=...}} parameter. This automatically sets the coordinates and zoom level of the map based on the feature's shape.

For an example, see the map of the Isle of Kortos either above or to the right.

To add a map depicting a location that already has a pin on the map, use its latitude and longitude, which should already be in that location's article as the latlong parameter of either {{DisplayMap}} or an infobox template. For the coordinates of locations with a map pin but no article, see PathfinderWiki:Map Locations Without Articles.

By coordinates

{{DisplayMap |latlong=8.6125924,54.4850000 |zoom=2 |align=right}}

To add a map depicting any other arbitrary location on Golarion, you must first find its coordinates on the map of Golarion:

  1. Open https://map.pathfinderwiki.com. If you're viewing a map embedded in PathfinderWiki, click the four-arrows button at the top right of the embedded map to open that map's current view in a new browser tab.
  2. Locate where the pin should be positioned on the map. Zoom in as closely as possible to find the most precise coordinates.
  3. If using a mouse and keyboard, right-click on the point of the map for the subject's position, then select "Copy Lat/Long". This copies the coordinates, such as 22.4020887, -1.3104665, for pasting elsewhere.

The first coordinate is the latitude, and the second coordinate is the longitude.

On PathfinderWiki, add the {{DisplayMap}} template and paste the coordinates as-is as the value of the latlong template parameter. To adjust the map's zoom level, use the zoom parameter.

For an example, see the map of central Casmaron either above or to the right.

Many types of infoboxes include a regionmap parameter for incorporating a {{DisplayMap}} of a location inside of the infobox. This provides a standardized way to include a map into an article about a {{Location}}, {{City}}, {{Nation}}, or {{Region}}. For details, see each template's documentation.

The {{City}} infobox includes a special behavior for the latlong parameter. In addition to displaying a map at the city's coordinates, PathfinderWiki also adds a pin for the city to the map. See PathfinderWiki:Mapping project contribution for details.
