Solifugids are arachnids that dwell in the desert around Katapesh. Many species tend to be the size of a human and appear as a hybrid of spider, beetle, and scorpion. They are also known as camel spiders, wind scorpions and sun spiders.12

Ecology

A solifugid has eight legs, two spider-like eyes, and a set of large, clicking, hooked mandibles. Two large pedipalps, similar to scorpion pincers, protrude from just in front of its foremost legs.23 They are the subject of various rumors about their venom's deadly properties, all of which are false as solifugids have no venom.1

Varieties

Numerous species of solifugid exist, including relatively small variants such as dog-eating solifugids and giant solifugids, which are generally smaller than a human, and much larger ones such as yellow terror solifugids and razormouth solifugids, the latter known for their ability to cause painful, bleeding wounds. Certain kinds, such as banshee and duneshaker solifugids, can grow to immense sizes and power.2

Albino cave solifugids are a subtype adapted to subterranean environments. They have only six legs, instead of the eight legs of other solifugid species.2 In Nirmathas, this variant is sometimes called a phantom spider.4
