Talk:Brimstone Haruspex

From PathfinderWiki

Main category

Can we update Help:Categorizing_locations with something definitive for when to apply main categories? I have no idea when they should and shouldn't be applied. I didn't think we applied them to locations, and the Haruspex doesn't seem to be considered a settlement. —Oznogon (talk) 17:06, 27 March 2015 (UTC)

Absolutely right-I only added it back as it was there, but it isn't needed according to policy, so have tidied up. --Fleanetha (talk) 18:31, 27 March 2015 (UTC)

Guardians

Dungeon Denizens Revisited (p38) describes the Haruspex's guardians as huge owlbears. The more recent Belkzen, Hold of the Orc Hordes (p42) specifies that the guardians are flesh golems with owlbear and taiga giant parts. —Oznogon (talk) 20:44, 26 March 2015 (UTC)

As the author of that section of the book, I will argue that this is not necessarily a contradiction. Dungeon Denizens Revisited is an older book. Maybe the owlbears died between the "writing" of the two books, and the Endseers kept the best parts? Kind of like how some people have their favorite pets stuffed and put on the mantlepiece. Or perhaps they appeared to be owlbears, but upon closer inspection it was discovered that they were actually flesh golems with owlbear parts? Nevertheless, I understand the need for the "conflict" tag. On the face of it, the two things are not the same. --Brandingopportunity (talk) 05:43, 27 March 2015 (UTC)
Sorry! I didn't intend to sound like I was passing judgment on the content, and I absolutely see your point. If Dungeon Denizens Revisited was more ambiguous—the entirety of the reference to the Haruspex guardians is "Huge owlbears guard the Brimstone Haruspex"—or if Belkzen covered the discrepancy, or if I knew of another source that mentioned the guardians being owlbears, I probably would have leaned toward noting both in the article. As it stands, though, we have an older source mentioning one thing in passing and a newer source describing the same thing differently and in much more detail, so it seemed pretty cut-and-dried to me. My apologies!
Per the canon policy and your post, I'll restore the mention of owlbears from Dungeon Denizens and move this to the Discussion page to note the discrepancy.—Oznogon (talk) 05:39, 3 April 2015 (UTC)
