The term vira is commonly used by residents of Chelaxian cities, particularly Westcrown and Egorian, to refer to the sprawling walled estates of Chelaxian nobility. Westcrown alone is the site of more than three dozen viras, spread across each of the city's eight islands.

The term contrasts with another urban Chelaxian term, vaneo, which refers to manor houses. Citizens of Egorian tend to spend their summers enjoying their viras, and their winters in their vaneos to be closer to urban centers of the arts.
