Ximena was Blood Mistress of the Vernai and head of the Red Mantis assassins' leadership during the 26th century AR. She initiated the assassination cult's move from Azir, now part of Rahadoum, to Mediogalti Island, and also founded the city of Ilizmagorti.

Background

Blood Mistress Ximena led the assassins while they were based in the temple of Achaekek in the then-city-state of Azir during the Oath Wars of northwestern Garund. In 2559 AR, she received a vision from Achaekek that led her to move the cult to Mediogalti Island, a large, uninhabited isle covered in a dense jungle.

The Oath Wars ended the following year, as Kalim Onaku's Laws of Mortality spread through the region. Azir joined other city-states to found Rahadoum, a new nation which banned all religions, razed all of Azir's temples, and banished all worshippers of any deity—the Red Mantis and their temple of Achaekek included. The cult of the Red Mantis lost most of its wealth in Rahadoum's purge.

That same year on Mediogalti Island, Ximena led the construction of the Crimson Citadel and ordered her agents to wipe all mentions of the island from maps and histories, and over centuries the island became effectively forgotten by most of the region's population.

To recruit clients and facilitate trade, she established the port settlement of Ilizmagorti in 2597 AR at a lagoon that was already in use by pirates. These buccaneers came to appreciate the benefits Ilizmagorti offered them as a free port, and it grew to become a city. The Red Mantis' share of the city's commerce restored their fortunes, but they now also also operate more openly than before.
