Battle of Charda
The Battle of Charda was the first, and remains the most well-known, naval battle fought between Magnimar and the pirates of Riddleport.1234
Events
Early in Magnimar's history,5 the pirate captain Jevanna "Winterkiss" Skrinn attacked the fledgling city with a large force of that included five chardas, viciously destructive four-armed creatures pulled from the Darklands that Winterkiss had personally controlled through enchantments.
The tide of the battle turned against the pirates when Antholus Kaddren, a member of the Wardens of the Eye,6 sacrificed his life to break Winterkiss' control over the chardas. Freed from her influence, they turned against their former master in revenge.3
Legacy
The battle is commemorated with a monument of the same name in Magnimar's Beacon's Point district, which depicts the namesake chardas used by Winterkiss in the battle at a heavily exaggerated scale of 30 feet. (In truth, the creatures were about 4 feet tall.)34 Persistent rumors suggest the creatures are not sculptures but actually petrified.3
Stone chipped from the monument and fashioned into claws are sometimes sold mounted on a neckchain as charda claws, a type of Magnimarian souvenier.7
