Blights are a very rare subspecies of incredibly powerful ooze creatures made of protoplasm and eyes, whose mere existence curses miles-wide swaths of land.12

Creation

Blights can be created through a taxing nine-hour-long occult ritual that consumes at least one preserved heart of a creature native to the area to be blighted, and an expensive, alchemically infused altar made of sacrificial bone.

The ritual's casters wander the area intended to be the blight's domain and speak blasphemies to defile it, then return to the center of the area and insert the hearts into the altar.3
