Steel

Many swords are made of steel.

Steel is an iron alloy with improved durability. It is particularly valued in applications that require hard, sharp edges, such as bladed weapons, metal armor, and shields. Most mundane metal weapons and armor are made of either iron or steel, which is harder than stone, more durable than silver, and heavier than dawnsilver.

Steel is also used in construction, such as in the supports of bridges.

Steel alloys

In 4712 AR, Pathfinders rediscovered blades forged from a steel alloy that was thought lost centuries ago when ratfolk invaded Lung Wa and killed all the metalworkers familiar with the technique.

Steel is one of the manifestations of elemental metal as exhibited in the sounds of the Plane of Metal's language of Talican, parts of the physical forms of taloses, and one of the possible compositions of mercurials.

Some of the spheres of the Plane of Air are made of steel, and the retreat or revival of the Plane of Metal is related to manifestations of steel as obelisks on the Plane of Water and remnant veins on the Plane of Earth.
