Meta:Werecreature
Retroactive changes
In Pathfinder First Edition works, all werecreatures were generically referred to as lycanthropes, the condition of "afflicted werecreatures" was described as "acquired lycanthropy", and lycanthropes had different abilities and conditions for passing on their curse. For example, only true lycanthropes could spread the curse through a bite, and only lycanthrope mothers could pass the curse on to children. These traits, terms, and mechanics were broadly changed in Pathfinder Second Edition, with the term "lycanthropy" now referring only to werewolves.
In early First Edition works, such as Broken Moon 71–72, "acquired lycanthropy" was a curable disease that could eventually progress into the magical curse of lycanthropy, which was no longer curable as a disease. Subsequent works retroactively also replaced the non-magical disease aspects of early-stage lycanthropy with a magical curse. -Oznogon (talk) 21:11, 16 March 2025 (UTC)
