Mudhaven

From PathfinderWiki
The region of the Coins district of Absalom known as Mudhaven.

Mudhaven is a small region located in the southwestern corner of the Coins district in the city of Absalom.12

Geography

As the lowest area of the district and below sea level, Mudhaven is constantly wet as a result of its poor drainage.13 It consists of a dreary, dirty stretch of ragged shops, rotting homes, and unpaved roads.1

History

The great earthquake of 4698 AR fatally collapsed a tenement in Mudhaven.4

Inhabitants

Most of the workers of the Coins district live in Mudhaven,13 as does a small population of former halfling slaves, some escaped and some released.5 Runaway Blakros family scion Corian Blakros has also been reported as hiding in Mudhaven.6

Crime

The area garnered a reputation for violence, particularly through the reporting of Absalom's broadsheets.7 Violence was once a nightly occurrence here but normally burned out by dawn when the rioters sobered up,1 While crime does remain rife in Mudhaven, and the Token Guard never enters in squads of fewer than two dozen,13 most of its poverty-stricken residents live relatively ordinary lives. Some enterprising locals hold "misery tours" of Mudhaven for wealthy tourists seeking salacious squalor, but these shams are mostly composed of staged events and occasional pickpocketing scams and are deeply unpopular with Mudhaven's residents.2

Mudhaven is host to a thieves' guild called Dod's Filchers, which is based in an abandoned home known as the Crystal Palace.8 The Family Dogs gang also recruits children from Mudhaven, sometimes by force.6

Locations

The Guiding Hand is a mission of Findeladlara that serves soup to Mudhaven's poor and helps place its patrons in apprenticeships at businesses in the Coins. It is operated by Tern on the Wind, a Snowcaster elf from the Crown of the World, who has heavily warded the building to keep its unusually well-maintained appearance.6

The orphanage Rhet's Home is located in northern Mudhaven and is operated by its namesake dromaar founder Rhet Tafmar.13
