An earthquake, also known as a quake, tremor, or temblor, is the shaking of a planet's surface resulting from a sudden release of underground energy, whether natural or supernatural in nature. They are often associated with volcanic activity, and while they can be disastrous on their own, they can also cause tsunamis, landslides, and other disasters.

On Golarion

Earthquakes beneath the waters of the Steaming Sea and in the nearby Hellrung Mountains cause many tsunamis.

Notable earthquake events in Golarion's history include:

• The Spiritscar in Kaoling was formed by an earthquake generated by cultists of Lady Nanbyo during the rule of Lung Wa.
• An earthquake caused Gulgamodh to fall into the earth, leaving only its fist above ground.
• An earthquake destroyed Ralthorn Manor in Taldor, killing the members of House Ralthorn.
• In 2920 AR, massive earthquakes struck Casmaron, Qadira, and Taldor, killing tens of thousands of people.
• In 3610 AR, an earthquake destroyed most of the remaining buildings and monuments of Min-Khadaim, an ancient city of the cyclopean empire of Koloran that had been abandoned after Earthfall. The Khadaim Colossus is also damaged by this earthquake.
• An earthquake caused by a forbidden technique of Falehetu, a student of the Monastery of Untwisting Iron, resulted in a tsunami that drowns most of the students in the Monastery of Unbreaking Waves.
• Several years after cyclopes thwarted a failed attempt by Chelaxian settlers to land on the Island of Empty Eyes in 4110 AR, an earthquake destroyed the Darklands tunnels the cyclopes once lived in.
• In 4510 AR, a great earthquake exposed new openings to the Candlestone Caverns, unleashing tides of subterranean raiders upon the human settlements in rural Andoran. The tremors also damaged the city of Oregent.
• An earthquake in the 47th century AR damages the Taldan fortress of Edgeside Keep, forcing its closure.
• An earthquake in the 47th century AR destroys the bridge over Gold Canyon in Taldor.
• In 4611 AR, a major earthquake in eastern Varisia caused extensive damage to Janderhoff and killed dozens.
• In 4698 AR, a major earthquake rocked the Isle of Kortos, resulting in numerous long-lasting effects on the city of Absalom. Many were killed, large portions of the neighborhood of Beldrin's Bluff fell into the Inner Sea to become the modern Precipice Quarter, and the section named the Puddles became permanently swamped. The quake also destroyed on of the bridges to the Starstone Cathedral, damaged many of the tunnels, chambers, and Vaults beneath the Pathfinder Society's Grand Lodge, damaging or destroying most of its early unpublished records, and releasing a terrible creature that killed several people before being hunted down.
• In 4707 AR, an earthquake struck Taldor northeast of Zimar and set off a fire that destroyed the great lodge near the Lion Sleeps Inn.

Rovagug, Lady Nanbyo, and Torag are closely associated with earthquakes.
