Nessian
As of 4720 AR, Nessian led the Absalom-based gang the War Hounders.123
Background
Nessian grew up in the Puddles as a poor street urchin reliant on his wits, strangers, and charity. He soon learned to fight and steal when charity ran out, and his effectiveness drew other like-minded criminals to him. These toughs soon composed the first War Hounders, with Nessian serving as their crafty leader.3
While the War Hounders were mainly an upstart band of thieves and thugs, Nessian was a formidable warrior and tactician who sacrificed some of the training other fighters specialize in for a dirtier fighting style.1 Over the 4710s, the War Hounders became renowned as brutal thugs in the Puddles and the village of Shoreline on Absalom's outskirts.4
Black Echelon incident
In 4708 AR, he orchestrated a plan to initiate the centuries-old Silent Tide, an attack by undead agents of Taldor's Black Echelon against the city, as a means to blackmail the citizenry and establish himself as a primary member of the Absalom underworld.5
The scholar Yargos Gill had acquired a codebook once used by the Black Echelon to infiltrate and weaken Absalom's defenses in preparation for the Silent Tide. Gill unwittingly set into motion the operatives' plan,5 and Nessian had Gill kidnapped from the Soggy Piper tavern in order to take the book from him before throwing him from the nearby cliff of Torsen's Maw, nearly killing Gill.6 Gill enlisted the Pathfinder Society, which helped foil Nessian's plans.7
Fate
Nessian's fate is unclear. In 4721 AR, the wizard Ezren attempted to negotiate the purchase of Nessian's papers and personal effects from the War Hounders on the behalf of an unknown buyer.89
Locations
Nessian is most active at the War Hounders' base of operations, a ruined siege castle south of Shoreline on Absalom's outskirts known as the Pyramid of the Dog.1210
Relationships
The Muckruckers have proven ineffective against Nessian and the War Hounders for more than a decade. In one instance, Nessian personally decapitated the Muckrucker Theirmias and lobbed his head into a crowd before escaping.2
As of 4720 AR, the Soggy Piper's proprietor Yelmo has held a grudge since against the War Hounders—particularly Nessian—and has banned them from his bar and threatened to poison their drinks for their actions against Gill, Yelmo's favorite customer.6
Personality
Nessian shows favor to the most effective and loyal War Hounders by gifting them a magical hell hound tooth.4
While Nessian presents a tough, brave front, he remains a coward at heart and would willingly abandon the War Hounders and his stolen wealth alike should his life be threatened.3
