Welcome too from me and thanks for embarking on editing, PDV. Don't give up, though. --Fleanetha (talk) 23:33, 18 November 2018 (UTC)

No Plagiarism, Please

Hi PDV, and thanks for jumping into editing. I noticed that your edit to Temples of Pharaoh Ahn is just a copy/paste of the exact text in Osirion, Legacy of Pharaohs. This is a violation of our Plagiarism policy. We are allowed to use Paizo's IP under the terms of the Community Use Policy, which is very generous, but which specifically prohibits the reprinting of any text from Paizo-owned sources that aren't the Paizo blog. That means that we need to rephrase any information we take from canon sources, so your additions to that article will need to be rolled back and redone in your own words in order to not violate the licenses under which the wiki operates. Please don't hesitate to reach out to me or any of the other admins with any questions, and thanks in advance for your understanding. —Paizo Publishing, LLC.png Yoda8myhead (talk) 20:56, 2 June 2019 (UTC)

I *did* rephrase it. PDV (talk) 20:50, 31 July 2019 (UTC)
I've just read both your submitted text and my copy of the book side by side. The only change between the two is that you removed the micro stat block parenthetical after Ali Ahmendi's name. Other than that, the two are identical. I'm not trying to belabor the point, but I want to make it clear that we take this issue seriously and have access to all copyrighted Paizo text to compare versions. Mistakes happen, and it's a learning process, but claiming to have rephrased something that was clearly not altered in even the slightest way sets off alarm bells that will likely result in more admin time spent policing future edits.
I have found that the best way to avoid plagiarism is not to reference PDFs, from which it can be easy to copy and paste without alteration, and instead use printouts or physical copies of books when generating large chunks of text. This forces me to write every word anew, and thus I think much harder about how much of the content is just being restated verbatim from the source and what I'm putting into my own words.
Again, let me know if you have any questions about the policy or would like further guidance on how to avoid future issues.—Paizo Publishing, LLC.png Yoda8myhead (talk) 23:29, 31 July 2019 (UTC)
