On Golarion

Although these fungi exist in many dark and damp subterranean locations throughout Golarion,2 some Darklands inhabitants such as xulgaths purposefully plant them near their settlements to deter invaders.1

They have been spotted in such diverse underground locations as the sewers of the Varisian city of Korvosa,3 the less-traveled tunnels of Sekamina,4 the cavern known as the Nursery Trench below the city of Kaer Maga,5 the Petrified Shrine in Katapesh,6 and even very occasionally in swamps on the coast of Taldor (although this instance might technically be a subspecies).7
