Vipers[1] are a type of snake distinguished by the presence of a pair of hinged fangs that can inject venom when the viper bites another creature.[2]
Species of viper
Multiple kinds of viper exist, whose venom often causes different effects. Different species' toxins may induce paralysis, pain and swelling, blood clotting, or lethal heart failure.[2]
Giant vipers
Giant vipers are a particularly large type, and consequently produce more poison than smaller specimens do. The larger quantity of venom injected by their bites can cause more severe symptoms than a smaller viper's would.[3]
In religion
Vipers are the sacred animals of the demon lord Areshkagal[4] and of the infernal duke Titivilus.[5]
