Guecubu
The corpses of evil people executed for their offenses are sometimes burned, crushed, or scattered in order to prevent them from rising from the dead. However, their intense evil animates a new body from dirt, stones, and plant matter, resulting in a vengeful guecubu whose presence attracts misfortune to others around them.12
Appearance
A guecubu resembles a skeletal being made primarily of dirt, stone, and rotted flesh.32
Abilities
The ground around a guecubu quivers from its supernatural presence, making movement near it more difficult. However, consecrated or warded ground is unaffected by a guecubu's presence.324 They can also shape stone, and can push a foe into a stone barrier with such supernatural force that the victim melds into it.2
A guecubu's bite is cursed with misfortune, causing its victims to struggle with any task and making them more vulnerable to critical harm.3 Their earthen body is also resistant to electricity and most forms of physical harm, and they can burrow through any form of earth, including solid stone, without leaving any trace of its passage.2
Ecology
Guecubus remember their execution and mistreatment and retain their mortal intelligence if not their talents, both of which motivate their constant quests for revenge. They stalk and kill their enemies individually, and their presence leaves no trace but dust from their monstrous form.
However, they lack any self-awareness about the harm they caused while alive or whether the actions of those who killed it were justified. Adventurers pursued by a guecubu might not realize that it is the manifestation of an enemy they had killed in a past event.2
On Golarion
The dead of those who sought vengeance against Tar-Baphon sometimes rise as guecubus and exact their vengence instead on all living beings.5 Undead spirits who succumb to blackfrost sometimes rise as guecubus.6 Guecubus are also active in the North Plains of Nidal7 and Smokewood of Numeria.8
