Move proposal

I propose that this article should be renamed Kyton evangelist to distinguish it from the race of kyton outsiders. Rather than make a redirect out of the existing article under the name "kyton", we should create an article there that details the commonalities of the kyton subtype in the same way we do for demons and devils, and place a disambiguation clarification at the top of the article to direct people looking for the traditional kyton to the evangelist page instead. Rather than make this move myself, I am proposing it so that whoever moves it can ensure the entire process is done at once, rather than leave it half-done, which is all I'd have time for at the moment.—Paizo Publishing, LLC.png Yoda8myhead (talk) 17:28, 17 September 2013 (UTC)

Just to add here for anyone considering this rationalization, we already have an evangelist page so one doesn't need to be created. It is probably worth someone doing a 'sanity check' that the material at kyton is for the race and that at evangelist is for the specific type though. I shall now add a redirect for Kyton evangelist to help.--Fleanetha (talk) 17:41, 17 September 2013 (UTC)
Now that I'm actually taking the time to read this article, I see that the change I'd proposed is already what is being done. Way to get ahead of yourself, Mark. I've removed {{move}}, and future editors can ignore my above call to action.—Paizo Publishing, LLC.png Yoda8myhead (talk) 19:54, 17 September 2013 (UTC)

Inspiration

This doesn't belong on the main page, but those using Paizo's kytons in their game should consider Clive Barker's The Hellbound Heart and Hellraiser required reading/viewing.--Filby (talk) 20:10, 3 November 2012 (UTC)

Removed and hidden content

I have hidden or removed content citing descriptive text in Pathfinder First Edition Bestiary volumes, or replaced it with content from newer canon sources. Please do not restore it without replacing those citations with canon sources. -Oznogon (talk) 12:34, 26 October 2019 (UTC)

I've removed that content and reproduced it here. Again, do not restore it without replacing the non-canon citations with references to canon works.
... and sought to sate their hunger for suffering by claiming mortal souls for their own sick pleasure. The velstracs now wear their chains proudly as symbols of their defiance against the gods.1
... Though often mistaken for devils by mortals, velstracs hold themselves above the tyrants of Hell; they do not seek to corrupt or enslave mortals, but instead to "help" them attain a higher state of being, reshaping the flesh and soul with a fanatic's zeal.1
... Spiritual beings, velstracs are formed from the souls of mortals—torture victims, masochists who killed themselves seeking pleasure, and sacrifices to the velstracs, and other powers of suffering—stolen from the normal judgments of the afterlife through obscure rituals and drawn to the Shadow Plane. The velstracs take these souls, warping and torturing them for years, until they are transfigured into new velstracs. A soul's first act as a velstrac must be to cut off a portion of its own flesh, beginning its self-guided evolution. Over the centuries of its immortal existence, a velstrac mutilates itself and grafts new flesh onto its body over and over, metamorphosing into ever stronger and less human forms. The various "species" of velstrac are simply different stages in the velstracs' evolution.1
... Velstracs feed on pain, entering a state of arousal simply by witnessing the destruction of flesh.2 They ruthlessly hunt mortals, either to convert their souls into new velstracs or to cut up their bodies for new grafts.1
... Some velstracs have engaged in unholy couplings with their mortal victims—this is rumored to be the origin of the evangelist velstracs.3
... Beneath the demagogues is the Covenant of Overlords, a loose network of powerful eremite velstracs that alternately work together to accomplish their ends or squabble for the demagogues' attention.4
... lying outside the hierarchy set by Asmodeus.3
