Khefak
Khefaks are arthropods native to the distant planet of Akiton. While most are naturally occuring vermin, some have been alchemically engineered into a larger subspecies capable of secreting the refined form of the combustible fuel thasteron from radioactive materials. Natural khefaks are common, mundane vermin called scuttlers, while larger engineered khefaks are known as thasteron khefaks.1
Appearance
Khefaks are many-legged, hard-shelled arthropods that resemble a centipede with a crab's head and pincers.1
Abilities
All khefaks can feed by consuming most materials, including many types of metal.2 They are adept climbers and can also slowly burrow underground, and can see in the dark and sense nearby vibrations.1
Thasteron khefaks can also consume radioactive materials that they convert into secretions of refined thasteron, but as a result they also emit a mildly sickening radiation of their own as the radioactive materials they consume become concentrated in their chitin.1
Ecology
Khefak scuttlers are common vermin on Akiton. Although thasteron khefaks are valuable for their thasteron secretions, the radiation they eventually emit makes them difficult for breeders to work with.1
