Abhaya, also called the Returner, is a Vudrani human undine. As of 4725 AR she is an oceanographer at the Monastery of Unbreaking Waves on Wavebreak Haven, Jalmeray. Her title refers to how she always returns safely from her travels, no matter how dangerous they seem.

Abhaya is notable for her turquoise braids.

Background

Abhaya represented the Monastery of Unbreaking Waves at the Challenge of Sky and Heaven in 4718 AR. It was during that competition that she attempted to force all she learned into one attack; unfortunately, the combination of techniques that she used caused a cascade that created an unending torrent of seawater, knocking the representatives of all four Houses of Perfection out of the proving grounds and leading to a four-way disqualification.

The fallout of that disqualification led to Abhaya withdrawing from martial studies and turning her focus to academia. First venturing into Golarion's oceans to map their connections to the Plane of Water, she later shifted focus to the boundaries between the Plane of Water with those of Wood and Metal after their reemergence in 4723 AR. Her interplanar studies were jointly published by the Pathfinder Society's Concordance of Elements.

With the guidance of one of the Monastery's faydhaan teachers, Abhaya was synthesizing a theory on how the emergence of the Planes of Metal and Wood affect the elemental balance of the Universe. At the request of the Monastery's Swordmaster Ganhil, she also investigated how his swordplay techniques were affected by the resurgence of the two once-missing elements.

In 4725 AR, she also served as a representative of the Monastery at the Six Schools' Convocation, which was held in Nerosyan, Mendev, and hosted by the Academy of the Reclamation.

Possessions

Abhaya carried an abacus made of cowrie shells and coral. She was also capable of crafting a bespoke type of talisman called a drop of convergent waters, which could reproduce a fragment of the power she unleashed at the Challenge of Sky and Heaven.
