Gumiho
- See also: Kitsune
Gumihos are fox-like fey creatures that use charm and humanoid disguises to lure prey into forests.12
Appearance
In their natural form, a gumiho resembles a nine-tailed foxs with eerie green eyes and a green marble amulet around its neck called a fox marble.12
Abilities
Gumihos possess darkvision and a better sense of smell then other foxes. They can speak and understand Common tongues and Fey. Creatures that talk with a gumiho are prone to being supernaturally charmed by it, while the gumiho itself is immune to such effects.
Gumihos can cast spells of occult magic. Like other fey, they are vulnerable to cold iron.
A gumiho can persistently change shape into a specific humanoid form that always has one its tails.12
Ecology
Gumihos use their humanoid disguise, supernatural charm, and guile to lure victims into the deep woods before attacking in its true fox form. A victorious gumiho tears out their victim's throat and eats their liver.
A gumiho's power is connected to its compulsion to eating livers, causing it to shed its magically evil nature and become stuck in its humanoid shape if it abstains from eating livers for 1,000 days.12
Society
Old legends suggest that a fox that lives for 1,000 years becomes a gumiho, quadrupling in size and growing eight more tails.12
Fox marbles
A fox marble is a green marble amulet worn by gumihos in which they store their knowledge. A gumiho can perfectly recollect its past memories by focusing on it.
When a gumiho severely strikes a creature with its claws or jaws, they can use the marble to absorb some of the victim's lost life force to heal its own wounds.
If one were to steal a fox marble, they would also gain asses to the gumiho's memories. However, if the gumiho who owns the marble is still alive, it persistently and vengefully works to retrieve it.12
