Talk:Arazni/Conflicts
Class levels
Inner Sea Magic describes Arazni as "wizard 20+". Mythic Realms updates this to wizard 20 / marshal 8. Mythic Realms is a newer equal-tier source. See also Category talk:Wizards of 20+ level for clarification about characters described in Inner Sea Magic as being level "20+". -Oznogon (talk) 23:04, 3 November 2018 (UTC)
- I don't understand why this has to be marked as a clear conflict, instead of a footnote in the article itself as per the 'Assume no conflicts' policy. - HTD (talk) 00:20, 28 February 2019 (UTC)
Ethnicity
Arazni was described as Taldan in Inner Sea Magic, but was revealed to be actually from Arcadia in The Dead Roads (a newer, higher-tier source). - HTD (talk) 00:20, 28 February 2019 (UTC)
Religious symbol
User:Descriptivist has highlighted a potential conflict around Arazni's religious symbol:
- Winged rapier as stated in the text of Divine Mysteries 38
- Rapier and lotus as seen in the image on Eulogy for Roslar's Coffer 69; Gods & Magic (Second Edition) 54; and Divine Mysteries 38
- The icon of a glowing winged sword was her holy symbol when she was Aroden’s herald, ... Eulogy for Roslar's Coffer 27, where it also states it's a symbol of a fiery winged sword
- a golden symbol of [...] an upright winged sword on a red field Gods and Magic (Pathfinder Chronicles) 55
3 & 4 are likely the same and are described as her Arodenite symbology, so might well be different from her symbol as a goddess without any conflict. A lotus is associated with Arazni at Eulogy for Roslar's Coffer 71. The juxtaposition of the image and the text on Divine Mysteries 38 suggests that the image is indeed of a winged rapier and the lotus could be a pair of butterfly wings?? I am unsure but have unhidden the text in Divine Mysteries as a high-tier source and simplified the rest as it now links here. --Fleanetha (talk) 18:02, 14 December 2024 (UTC)
- The similar reference table of divine entities in Inner Sea Gods 316–317 explicitly lists her symbol as "rapier and lotus".
- The symbol depicted in Eulogy for Roslar's Coffer clearly features a lotus, not a butterfly. Lotuses also factored into worshipers' practices (Eulogy 71). Neither Eulogy nor Mysteries mention butterflies in relation to Arazni. The artwork of a follower of Arazni on Mysteries 41 bears a tattoo of the 1E symbol on their right arm.
- Non-canon Starfinder source The Perfect Storm 27 depicts an alternate universe where Arazni remained worshiped, and describes her symbol as "a rapier bisecting a blooming, colorful lotus flower", in line with the artwork and Inner Sea Gods.
- Counter to these examples, the text on Mysteries 39 also asserts that worshipers fashion winged rapier symbols.
- Either her symbol changed alongside her "promotion" to the core 20 and the 1E artwork reuse is in error, or the artwork in Mysteries and past canon descriptions of the symbol are correct, and the statblock and text reference in Mysteries are errors. Particularly due to the artwork in Mysteries, this conflict seems irreconcilable barring an official clarification. -Oznogon (talk) 18:48, 14 December 2024 (UTC)
- In 2019, Ron Lundeen suggested that the artwork on the back of a knight's armor from The Dead Roads 74 depicts Arazni's holy symbol from before her death. It clearly depicts an upright rapier with outstretched feathered wings on either side and does not resemble the art from Eulogy. Lundeen refers to the symbol as a "winged rapier".
- The Dead Roads 9–10 describe a puzzle involving feather-winged rapiers related to Arazni, and 12 describes a breastplate bearing a winged rapier. In-universe, these items all refer to Arazni before her death.
